My Prayers For The Singer Usher

July 22, 2012 at 4:16 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , )

My prayers go out this morning

to the singer usher. The singer’s step son was taken off life support after sustaining injuries  in a jet ski accident. The coming days will be the hardest. You can not believe what happened to turn your life upside down. My prayers go out to the singer’s family. No parent should have to make the painful decision to withdraw life support from your child.

Five years ago today, my son set off with some friends to float the river. By that evening, both our lives were changed forever. Levi was 20 years old and had bought his car. There are no words to describe the helpless feeling you have when you son is on life support. There also are no words to describe when you have to make the painful decision to withdraw life support because you son is brain-dead with no hope of recovery.

I wa saddened by the senseless tragedy that had taken place last week. The singer Usher, and his family set off for a day of fun jet skiing and other water sports, and it all ended tragically. As a parent, we try our best to keep our children safe from harms way. Sometimes it takes a split second to change our lives forever.

I did not expect to get  a phone call from the local sheriff when my son set out to float the river that morning. The night before the accident, I put some gas in Levi’s car. We never knew that when we said our I love you’s that evening would be the last words we would ever speak to each other. A year after my son’s death, I was cleaning out his room and found a note in his desk. The note was so appropriate. “Life can change in a moment. Live life like you mean it, and don’t look back with any regrets.” A very wise message indeed.
