The Community Action partners

Last week, I had coffee with a good friend of mine.

I mentioned to my friend I was looking for a place to volunteer. She said the food bank needed help so I filled out the paper work for the front desk.

I work with The Community Action Partners. I am blessed to be part of an organization where I make a difference  in many families’ lives. There is a real sense of community with the generous donations we are receiving daily. We have already made  over 2,000 food baskets for many families in our area.

As a young widowed mother I had the awesome responsibility of raising my  young 4-year-old son alone. As a single mother I had many hardships and difficulties being the sole provider for my family. I remember my first Thanksgiving after my husband died from complications from his disease. The Lion’s Club delivered a box of food to my house. I appreciated the thoughtfulness as I was struggling to put food on the table.

Every year my church hosts a  pre-Thanksgiving dinner at the local fairgrounds. My pastor started the tradition for those families leaving for the holiday and more importantly, for those  who have nowhere to go on thanksgiving. Every year, we see more new faces along with many who come each year. it is a great time to gather together fellowshiping, eating, and making a new friend or two.
