The Best Laid Plans

Sometimes the best laid plans in our lives are best when laid down.

My schedule was changed this afternoon. Sometimes It is good to keep in mind a boss appreciates your flexibility, your willingness to fill in as needed, and a positive attitude. It is no always easy. All to often we can catch ourselves complaining over a schedule change or refusing to be available.( I have always kept in the back of my mind, if you need to change a shift, it will easier if you are also available). I have found most of my co-workers are easy to get along with and are thankful for the extra help instead of say working 24 hours straight.

I was thinking about what is means to have a servant’s heart. Some of us are caring for our aging parents on top of our own hectic schedules. Sometimes when I get overwhelmed and mom asks me to one last thing for her, I feel like I will explode. I hear a gentle whisper in my ears saying ‘you are a good kid.’ For those who feel overwhelmed also, trying to keep it all together, I toast you with a cup of coffee and say ‘you are a good kid too.’ I know it is not easy the new role we are entering into, but the grace of God will sustain us and His comfort will help us to carry on in the burn out seasons. I take great comfort in remembering these sentiments for my life because they have been encouraging to me and has kept me focused and moving forward . No child thinks the day will come when we will be caring for our parents . Wasn’t it just yesterday we moved out on our own? I also know there are several parents who have passed away. Life is hard, but life is also full of blessings and special memories of times spent with our loved ones.

I am so thankful for the love and support of family and friends who keep encouraging me to keep moving forward in the good things God still has for me. Sometimes we have our lives all planned out not knowing our lives have taken a different direction than we expected. In July 2007, my son Levi died in a tragic car accident. He was only 20. I dreamed of watching him be married, announce I would be a grandma, buy his new house. Plans change, dreams change, one thing is constant, sometimes the best laid plans are best laid down to rest and let God take over. Life is good indeed!
