God Is Always With Me

Over the past several years, I have faced some personal challenges. I found myself raising my young son alone after I lost my husband after 6 short years of wedded bliss from diabetes complications. As a young widowed mother, I had the awesome responsibility to raise my son. I taught Levi to be a man of his word .I told Levi that a man of his word is a respected virtue. When my son was 7 years old, he learned a valuable lesson. Levi’s grandpa invited him to go fishing with him to go fishing. His friend wanted to go ride their bikes. I told Levi he would hurt his grandpa’s feelings if he didn’t go fishing with him. Levi caught a big fish that day. Both Levi and his grandpa cleaned and cooked the fish for dinner. Levi had a very good fishing trip.

Being a single parent taught me to lean on Jesus and his wisdom. Levi and I faced many challenges and difficulties but we survived them all. I am proud of the fine young man Levi had become. There were days I wanted to laugh, cry and string him up by his toes, sometimes all on the same day. Looking back I can see how much God was there giving us comfort, wisdom and peace. Parenting is not for wimps. Especially single parenthood.

At the end of the day, it does not matter how hard it was, there is nothing like hearing ‘I love you mom.’

I would not trade my life for anything. The hardships taught me to depend on God’s strength and to persevere. I would not have the walk I have with Him if not for the difficulties. Through God’s grace, peace and mercy, I began to realize I was not walking through this journey alone. He walked me through some of the darkest days of my life. I chose instead of being angry at God to trust in Him.
