Our Words can Hurt Or Our Words can Heal

Several years ago, I watched a famous country singer’s interview.

She told of how her voice coach told her she would never be a good singer because she could not carry a tune.(ouch). Even though the comment hurt, she kept taking the lessons. She went on to Country stardom. what if she would have allowed her voice coach change her mind on singing? America would have lost one of the great entertainers. At the end of her interview, I remember she joked that she thought about sending her voice coach one of her albums. She decided not to because chances are , he knows who she is. what a good attitude not to give up because of one snide comment.

Everyone has at one time or another exchanged feet in the mouth. Sometimes our intentions may be good, but not too well received. I too, was told I could not sing a wet tune in a bucket by someone I really respected. I was allowed to record one song as a group to be on an album. It was fun recording the song, but in the end, only four people finished recording the album. I didn’t quit the church because I was told I couldn’t sing. Instead I took over the over head projector for the music. I think many folks don’t know how much work really is put into a church service every week.

It is easy to  hurt other’s feelings by a comment if we are not careful. there is a saying that goes,’better to taste our words before we spit them out’. Well said.We  never know if someone just lost someone, suffered a break-up,or maybe has just been given devastating news. In today’s world, we are so busy, we hardly have time to breath. We are impatient in the checkout line, late for an important meeting, should have been at soccer your child’s practice ten minutes ago. Have you heard customers at the local fast food counter lately. Gosh people, it is only a taco.No regards to the workers who has filled twenty other customers orders. It is getting sad out there.
