Happy father’s day to all the dads.

I chose this image in honor of my dad. My dad was affectionately called grandpa John. My dad was best remembered for his 1946 Willie’s jeep. I can still envision him tooling around the neighborhood visiting all the neighbors. Every winter, my parents would host a sledding party. My dad pulled family and friends around the block in his jeep. Sometimes unintentionally,we would slide into a car going around the corner. When we couldn’t feel finger or toes, we went inside for hot cocoa, then back out again for more sledding fun.

I asked my son one day what was his favorite memory of his grandpa. Fishing on father’s day. Grandma, Grandpa and I would get up early, pack a lunch and set off in the motor home for the day. We went to our favorite fishing spot and thew our poles in. When we were done fishing, we took off for the 10,000 dollar bar so grandpa could gamble for a while. Grandma and I looked around the gift shop. We all had an early dinner, then came back home.

I miss both my dad and my son. Levi and his grandpa are in Heaven  forever fishing together, and trading  ‘The Big One” stories. I can almost hear them now. What a conversation to listen in on. I hope today is a day filled with special moments to last a forever. Thank you dads, for being such a big part of our lives, going to our games, helping with our homework, daddy/daughter and dad / son days. you are there when we need you, you were brave teaching us to drive,( ever wonder the real reason dad became grey so young). Today is Your day dads savor every moment.
