Have A Safe and Happy Halloween

October 30, 2014 at 8:19 pm (Creative Non- Fiction, Middle age, Poetry, Uncategorized)

I remember as a child, my brother and I went trick or treating in our neighborhood. We felt safe, we went to the neighbors we knew, stayed clear of the ones we didn’t. The costume’s were not gory, and headless back then. My uncle loved to decorate his home for Halloween. The kids love coming to his home. he didn’t scare you with freaky music or a ghost didn’t pop out from behind a door. He had good clean fun. today, there is so much commercialism attached to the holiday, it almost takes the fun out of the frightful night.

Churches started to host a night of festivities as an alternative to Halloween. Huge rooms are decorated with games, they offer food booths for families to eat out, kids dress up in cute costumes. So much fun is had by all. Times have sure changed since I was a child, but at least there are some choices parents have to make the  night less scary. Have a safe, good night.
