Where Were You?

Where were you and what were you doing when you heard the devastating new that The Twin towers were just hit by terrorists in planes?

At the time, I owned my own Daycare/ Kinder Center out of my home. I got my son up for school that morning. After he left for the bus stop, I started to get phone calls from the parents saying they had called in sick and just wanted to be home with the family. I hadn’t had the chance to turn on the local news yet so I was perplexed as to why I was closed that day.

I decided to shower and get ready for  the day and maybe since I was off, I could run a few errands. Something told me to go to my church and just hang out with the Pastor and staff instead. I drove into the parking lot, went into the coffee shop where I found my pastor, some staff and a few more people setting around the table with the TV on. that is when I found out about the Twin towers and the Pentagon bombing.

I remember how full the churches were the first two months after the attacks. Then after everything quieted down, the people stopped coming. I feel at least for a time, folks could have a shoulder to cry on, exchange ideas on what happened, or just had a safe place to come when there was so much confusion, unrest, and fear going on in America.

Where were you when 911 happened and what were you doing at the time?

Working in midtown Manhattan. I will never forget anything about that day

  2. Ann Coleman said,

I remember I had just dropped my kids off at school and heard on the radio that a plane had hit the twin towers. I thought, “how sad, I hope not too many people were killed,” thinking that they meant a very small, private plane. Then I went home and turned on the TV and learned the awful truth.
