Turning 60

I have been blessed with so many birthday wishes from family and friends.  My birthday wasn’t quite the same without celebrating with my twin, but you make the best of it. If it makes me feel any better, Jeff told me he had to work also.  Softens the blow a little bit.

All kidding aside as we get older, we usually are far apart and don’t get the chance to be together as often as we would like. Most of the family had moved away a few years ago, so celebrations have changed. I have a couple of friends who I can get together with for a birthday coffee or lunch. This is really the first year anyone has been able to have dinner parties or dine out .

Turning 60 this year has not been any different for me than the past birthdays. My life is still the same as it was when both my husband and my son passed away. You have to find the beauty in each new day to celebrate even if you are happy the lawn was mowed. Everyday we live with the choice of being a lemon taster or living life to the fullest. I can always find something to be thankful for even if circumstances seems impossible there is always a silver lining somewhere.

I really look forward to the next ten years of my life. I have a job in health care that I love, mom is still here, I have the love and support from  my family and my friends, my health, my forever home, my son’s old bedroom I have turned into my dressing room, it is finally tuning into fall my favorite time of the year. I have the best neighbors anyone could ask for always willing to lend a hand, seasonal coffee creamers, my bible study sisters, and so much more to look forward to in my near future!

I know some people grimace at the thought of turning 60, 70, 80 and beyond. Age is just a number that is it. You are only as old as you feel. You know that 60 is the new 30, Sixty and fabulous, I always love to hear “you are how old? No way’. I am still to young for tissue in every pocket, once a week hair do and the weekly pill organizer. I plan to embrace my new decade and have some more fun along the way.
